1. Introduction top

Prospective employees often ask; Are you a web designer or developer? I first started out in the field of web design and devlopment back in 1999. To date I have gained experience working first as a front end designer and graphic designer, working with print based media including designing and printing flyers for promoters and small businesses.

After gaining experience in these areas, I decided to concentrate on Web Design and Development as I was very interested in how to use a combination of Server and Client Side scripting langiages to make your web sites and applications more interactive and dynamic. Today this has almost become a prerequisite consideration when embarking on a new web project.

More recently I have built on this experience and have worked on a variety of projects from Web Editing, Front End Design and Visualisation, Front End Web Development (HTML, XHTML, CSS, CSS2) as well as working as a Web Developer (PHP, MySQL, and Javascript).

Although not comprehensive, to give you an idea of my skills and expereince to date, I have listed below some examples of my work.

6.Recent Projects: top

Here are a list of web projects that I have worked on both on a Freelance basis and as a Contractor.

plumber.londonlife.biz (2008)
This website was put together for a London based plumber. It incorporates a bespoke CMS or Photo Gallery which has been hand coded incorporating PHP, MySQL, and Javascript. The front of the website incorporates a design from the OSWD.org which is both XHTML and CSS standard compliant.

2dareis2do.co.uk (2007)
Community Portal set up for followers of Tottenham Hotspur. This site takes advantage of the XOOPS Planet Module that is a PHP port of the Python based xml feed aggregator. This plugin enables visitors to the site to keep up to date on transfer rumours results, football analysis match previews and lots more...

GoaLife.org (2007)
Community Portal originally built on the PostNuke CMS then rebuilt using XOOPS, a program that allows administrators to easily create dynamic websites with great content and many outstanding features including:

thebrothersbarbers.co.uk (2007)
Barber Shop Website Creation - This website was first installed using the PHP / MySQL driven Mambo open source content management system (aka Joomla) and a derivative of the phpNuke CMS's. However, this proved rather complex and cumbersome and proved too difficult for the client to use. I have now re-implemented the website using phpWebsite. Founded and hosted by the Web Technology Group at Appalachian State University, phpWebSite is developed by the phpWebSite Development Team, a network of developers from around the world. phpWebSite is free, open source software and is licensed under the GNU GPL and GNU LGPL.

pimedia.org (2006)
Flash website update to Media agency website.

lincontro-restaurant.com (2006)
Restaurant WebSite - This website update meant making price changes and adding new items to wine menu. It was important to ensure that any site changes were consistant with the existing sites look and feel.

tonymontana.co.uk (2006)
DJ website - This website update incorporates CSS and is W3C standard compliant. Overall the new website uses CSS to center the page on the screen and incorporates a curved border for the main website content that also adjusts to accomodate text flow and size. This website had to be manually updated using the Yahoo Geocities File Manager.

DCG media (2006)
Online Print Collection tool - Short-term contract working alongside a PHP Web Developer to implement conceptual designs into an actual standard compliant working website. The project was to produce an Online Content Collection Tool to be used for collected artwork for a series of directories. Use of CSS helped to ensure that the website could be quickly 'cloned' and with each clone given a distinctive look and feel.

smedesign.co.uk (2006)
Online Print Shop - Website update for SMEdesign.co.uk. This website is controlled by a Javascript controlled menu that is modified and updated by makling changes to a single text file. This is also backwards compatible with pre IE6 browsers. This makes adding new pages and products to the site very efficient. CSS is also used through out the site to control the appearance of each page on the website. This means that you don't have to modify each page if you want to modify the menu or look and feel of the site. The website is also W3C standard compliant.

LoboWeb.co.uk (Updated 2006)
Web Hosting Website - Loboweb.co.uk was recently updated to incorporate the phpCoin CMS. This website update incorporated a php / mysql script designed to simplify the management and running of a web hosting business.

pcp-plc.com (2005)
Shopping Mall Investment Portfolio - Website update incorporating new Flash driven iinteractive map. This website update meant making changes to existing interactive Flash maps as well as creating a new four floor map from scratch for The Haven Höövt - Bremen. Other site updates including use of HTML, PHP and CSS.

F9-Cars.com (2005)
Car Enthusiasts' Website - Based on an open source php/mysql script this has been set up and customised to help an enthusiast with limited internet knowledge to market and sell their classic cars online. This website allows the client to login and make updates to the website including price, vehicle details and even images/photographs.

StreathamLife.co.uk (2005-2006)
Streatham Community Portal - Following the success of Ealing-Life.co.uk, (below) StreathamLife.co.uk was set up in 2005, and was designed to be an online potal for anybody living or working in Streatham or surrounding area. This website utilises the Xoops CMS and Includes many feautures including Automated Registration, Community Forum, Free Web Links, Google Map, up to the minute RSS News Feeds, Newsletter Facility plus lots more. I have also set many local businesses on StreathamLife.co.uk and they can benefit from a web page and emailaddress@streathamlife.co.uk.

Here are a list of just some of the businesses that I have currently set up on StreathamLife.co.uk: Real Eyes TSJ Streatham Beds The Brothers Barbers

www.kisse.co.uk (2004/5)
Café and Cocktail Bar - Website update for Café and Cocktail Bar based on Lavender Hill. For this project I took new photos of the newly refurbished venue and incorporated them into the final website design.

www.richardthreadgillassociates.co.uk (2004/5)
Architectural Modelmakers Online Portfolio - All photographs had to be optimised for the web-site and presented in a way that was user friendly to navigate. This included scanning film transparencies where necessary. This website pioneered a new design technique that enabled the webpage to fit on the screen for display in a standard web browser, as well as being scaled to print onto a single A4 sheet.

windsorkindergarten.co.uk (2004)
Nursery Website - The website concept was initially designed using Microsoft Publisher as part of a school assignment. My task was to convert the Publisher documents into a professional looking website using web-design tools such as Macromedia Dreamweaver and Fireworks. In-evitably there were a few changes to be made but I hope that I maintained the overall look and feel of the original design concept.
